Personal discoveries occur at UBC both inside and outside the classroom and transform all of us in our journey of learning.

Comprehensive Academic Support Services

Whether it is the difficulty of balancing scholastic achievement with family commitments, issues in grasping important course material, connecting to the right department with academic inquiries or finding the appropriate counselling service, students can be overwhelmed by the bureaucracy of the university. By emphasizing comprehensive academic support services for students, we can aid and support students facing challenges in their learning. Through greater funding of key support services, centralization of advising units and simplification and publicizing of relevant counselling services, students can be better equipped to handle the demands of academic life.

Bolstered Mental Wellness Initiatives

Student stress levels and mental health issues are at an all-time high. Coping with the expectations of being a well-rounded and high achieving takes a toll on students and we need to prioritize wellness on our campus. The overall mental well-being of our student community should be a major focus for not only the AMS but the university administration. Student driven initiatives in the AUS and CUS have been an excellent start at creating programs that address students’ needs based on their academic programs. The AMS can play a vital role in promoting the growth of existing and new initiatives.

Applied Learning Options on Campus

Connecting academic learning to activity in the real world is often a difficult task. The AMS can provide a channel to connect students to learning opportunities in the real world. Through involvement in project-specific programs, the AMS can partner with our academic institution to allow students an opportunity to “learn by doing”. this will strengthen student job prospects while also opening opportunities for a more complete learning.
